Description
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1850, Robert Louis Stevenson longed for two things: the freedom and the amusement of diving into another world. He wrote essays and travel stories, as well as his legendary adventure stories populated by extraordinary characters, whose names sent chills to readers around the world: Long John Silver, Captain Flint, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Robert Louis Stevenson is dedicated to this extremely creative storyteller. Many decorative details of this edition are inspired by the novel "Treasure Island". The overall shape of the writing instrument, combined with the rings on the cone, recreates the effect of a historic extendable telescope.
This edition re-proposes the story of "Treasure Island", and features the famous Hispaniola on the body of the writing instrument, set in precious black lacquer. The Hispaniola puts out to sea waving a British flag behind a small window. Retracing the history of the pirate mutiny, the banner can be turned by a small knob to reveal a pirate flag. The distinctive gold-finished cap is adorned with vertical lines that recall the planks of the schooner “Hispaniola” and a traditional treasure chest. Behind the distinctive gold-finished clip, the lines converge to create a compass rose, while the clip reproduces the shape of a cleat, to which the ship's shrouds are attached. The cap is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl.
The cap ring is engraved with Stevenson's signature. Paying homage to Robert Louis Stevenson's passion for sailing and his decision to settle in the South Seas, the handcrafted Au 750 solid gold nib is engraved with a delicate motif of clouds, seagulls and the name the Samoans gave the great writer and globetrotter: “Tusitala”. With distinctive gold and/or distinctive gold plating, Montblanc describes the luminous shade of yellow gold that has become a symbol of the Maison's writing instruments.
