Born in Trieste in 1875, he was the son of Luigi Cambon (1838 - 1904), a well-known lawyer and deputy in the Vienna Parliament, and Elisa Tagliapietra, who had one of the city's popular salons. After starting his classical studies in his hometown, he moved to Munich and enrolled in the local Academy in 1892 and only after a few months of attendance, in January 1893, he obtained honorable mention in the composition competition with the painting The music. He remained in Munich until 1895, and then moved to Rome to complete his studies from 1900 to 1905. He participated in the Venice Biennials of 1897 and 1907, first with the pastel Portrait of a Lady and then with the Portrait of the Artist Benussi. After 1905, he returned to Trieste and remained there until the outbreak of the First World War; during this period he also became interested in advertising posters. An assiduous reader of Gabriele D'Annunzio, he rejected the proposals of Tommaso Marinetti who wanted to introduce him to Futurism, to remain faithful to his own traditionalist ideal. Having taken refuge in Milan, he married the painter Gilda Pansiotti and remained there permanently. He died suddenly in Biella in 1930, where he had gone to paint a portrait.
